Recognised on 4 May 2024

The Wikimedians of Singapore User Group was officially recognised as a Wikimedia user group on 4 May 2024.

It was founded to promote Wikipedia — the largest and most-read reference work ever! — and various other Wikimedia projects throughout Singapore and beyond.

A local Wikimedia history

Since the early 2000s, Singapore has had plenty of Wikimedia-related activity. In 2023, it hosted the 18th edition of Wikimania, the Wikimedia movement’s annual conference.

An expanding circle

The group hopes to continue expanding the circle of local Wikimedia enthusiasts through workshops, edit-a-thons, meetups, and more.

The group is spearheaded by 2025 Wikimedian of the Year Robert Sim and longtime Wikipedia editor Ryan Wee.
